144 FW Recognizes Outstanding Airmen

The 144th Fighter Wing recognized the 40 Outstanding Airmen of the Year (OAY) nominees and six finalists who represent the best of the best in the 144th Fighter Wing.

During the banquet one Airman from six different categories - Airman, Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), Senior NCO, 1st Sgt., Company Grade Officer, and Field Grade Officer will be chosen to represent the wing during the California Air National Guard Outstanding Airmen of the Year competition, on Jan. 21, 2012 in Universal City, Calif.

Whittling down this year's list of nominees was extremely challenging, according to Col. Sami Said, Commander, 144th Fighter Wing.

"The caliber of this year's Airmen was outstanding," said Col. Said. "They are all superb Airmen that live by the Air Force's core values and they make us proud every day."

The following six Airmen were selected as the top 144th Fighter Wing Airmen in their categories:

AIRMAN CATEGORY:

Airman 1st Class Adrian Mendoza, 144th Logistic Readiness Squadron

NCO CATEGORY:

Staff Sgt. Christian Jadot, 144th Fighter Wing, Public Affairs

SENIOR NCO CATEGORY:

Master Sgt. Charles Nyberg, 144th Security Forces Squadron

FIRST SERGEANT CATEGORY:

Master Sgt. Anthony Achimasi, 1st Sgt., 144th Mission Support Group

COMPANY GRADE OFFICER CATEGORY:

Capt. Dorian Sherman, 144th Comptroller Flight

FIELD GRADE OFFICER CATEGORY:

Lt. Col. Jeremy Simmons, 144th Civil Engineer Squadron

The OAY banquet recognizes the nominees for their superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements.
