DoD policy limits flyovers to aviation-related public events such as airport dedications, aviation shows and air fairs. This policy allows flyovers for those events designed to encourage the advancement of aviation, and contribute to public knowledge of Air Force aviation equipment and facilities. Exceptions to this policy may be granted on a case by case basis.
In order to have an event considered for approval, the following must be done:
Log on to the Aviation Support website
Complete the DD Form 2535, Request for Aerial Support. Forms must be filled out completely. Completion instructions can be found on page 4 of the form.
Once the requesting agency has completed their portion of the form, it must be faxed to the local FAA Flight Standards District Office.
After the FSDO has cleared the event for a flyover, please email completed DD 2535 forms to firstname.lastname@example.org.
After receiving approval SAF/PA contact 144th Fighter Wing Public Affairs. Public Affairs will verify approval and begin the coordination process. This process takes at least 30 days, so get your requests in as early as possible.
Non-aviation related events in observance of national patriotic holidays such as Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veteran's Day and POW/MIA Day are eligible for a flyover.
Note: Funeral/Memorial Flyovers are not coordinated through public affairs. These must be requested by closest next-of-kin at the base mortuary affairs office at Travis AFB.
